The Passions of Christ

by Missy Grant

This Sunday is the beginning of a very special week in the lives of Christians worldwide. While the world focuses on Spring vacations, baskets and chocolate bunnies – those who know Christ and call Him Lord and Savior have been preparing their hearts for Passion week. What is Passion week? What does it represent? Is it all show and no heart?

The word Passion in this setting is from the latin meaning sufferings. Christ knew what his week held in store for Him, yet “After He had said these things, He was going on ahead, going up to Jerusalem. Luke 19:28. The narrative of the gospels shares with us the Passions of Christ. Luke in his gospel, gives great detail day by day of the activities of Christ during this pivotal week. Click here to read His word.

The week starts with Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem (known as Palm Sunday) for the celebration of Passover and ends with the celebration of His work on the cross and resurrection.

In an effort to focus your thoughts away from worldly desires and back on Christ, the contributor’s of the blog have been asked to post in this special week, their thoughts on the Passions of Christ and what His work on the cross means to them. We are trusting the Lord to bring forth His word, His story through them. We pray their shared words will encourage you as you enter into this Passion week.

Mighty God, Heavenly Father, we are stunned by your sacrificial work on the cross. You rode into Jerusalem to the shouts of "Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord…” and one week later stood as shouts of “crucify him, crucify him” rang out. Yet you resisted the tempting of satan and spoke on our eternal behalf, “Father; forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing. Lord, we praise your name. Your faithfulness to all generations, your love which has no end. We thank you for your work on the cross. May we be bold and proclaim you to a dying and lost world. Amen.
