A New Covenant

by Rebecca Irwin

As I bid adieu to the year 2008, I typed "praise" into iTunes and let it play. And, when this song played, I knew I had found an anthem for my New Year's resolution.

I want to wish you a new year that is fully lived in our covenant with Jesus Christ as God's people!

May you find strength and resolve in the remembrance of God's faithfulness, His power, and our legacy in the lyrics from Covenant Song sung by Caedmon's Call.

Caedmon's Call
Covenant Song

We belong to the Lion of Judah
We are Abraham's seed
We belong to the God and Creator of everything

Let us raise up a covenant chorus
Let us bring forth our lives
To the One whose host gathers among us and fills the skies, and

Raise up His name on high
Raise up you people of His pride
Raise up and bare the fire that's in our eyes
And in our lives and shows that we are not afraid

In His light we can never be hidden
In His love we are here
We will shine through the night like a city upon a hill, so

He delivers His people from bondage
Sets the prisoner free
He has given us love and salvation, His eternal legacy

He will spare us the sword of His anger
He prepares us a home
Where we'll worship and glory before his throne, so

Raise up His name on high
Raise up you people of His pride
Raise up and bare the fire that's in our eyes
And in our lives and shows that we are not afraid

May this be our prayer oh God! May we love extravagantly. May your fire burn within us. May we never be lukewarm. May you release us from our bondage and allow us to taste freedom in Christ! May we boast in nothing but you. May we show that we are not afraid for you are our God and we are your people. Amen!
